Make your way to the Namib Desert, and the Namib-Naukluft National Park.

Leaving the central plateau and the Kalahari desert, you cross the escarpment into the Namib desert. Arriving late afternoon, you relax in camp , getting pumped up  for the early morning and an exciting day tomorrow.

Day 3 Sossusvlei

Today you will rise early for the drive to the Namib-Naukluft National Park.  We will enter the park for sunrise and travel through to the famous Dune 45. A brisk climb up Dune 45 offers us the perfect vantage point to marvel at the changing colours of the desert. Once satisfied we descend this famous dune and enjoy a hearty breakfast before driving into Sossusvlei, here we will spend time on foot visiting the pans at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. All animals here exist in completely natural surroundings, and are free to move unrestricted over the full extent of the reserve. It will help us understand the unique desert fauna and flora, so today we start off with an ecology walk in this beautiful environment, searching for animals, foot prints, and signs of the behaviour and survival strategies that allow them to exist in these harsh conditions.

Mid-afternoon we are in camp and as the evening approaches, a traditional sundowner drink is enjoyed while the sun dips over the African landscape. Tonight we empty the red sand from our shoes and spend the night under the magnificent desert stars, knowing that we have spent a full-day enjoying the wonders of this harsh land.

All the  nights we stay in Okakuejo Camp . During these days we conduct extensive game drives, visiting little water holes, exploring, letting your senses free, making the most of our time in the park.

As you drive, look out over the beautiful landscape as far as the eye can see. There are Himba, Herero, and Damara people along the way selling local arts, and we’ll be sure to make a few stops to find out more about their offerings.

After sunset, watch animals at the watering holes near the camping area, which is safe, being well lit with flood lights. Free time this evening allows for the option of a night safari in an open vehicle.

In peak season when the park rest camps are very busy we might stay outside the park and go in and out for game drives.

Depart Etosha NP early to make it in time for an afternoon safari at Okonjima Game Resrve. Famed for frequent leopard, brown hyaena and pangolin sightings on its safaris, as well as the AfriCat Foundation. Get  delighted and educated by the guides and it is here where leopards thrive. In the afternoon, embark on an endangered species nature drive. As the private Nature Reserve was established primarily to conserve some of our more threatened mammal species, it provides an increased chance to encounter these relatively rare animals. This is once again assisted by the AfriCat Foundation’s research projects on the shy brown hyaena, bat-eared fox and rhino.

Overnight excursion into the Okavango Delta. Travel in a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe) gazing at the winding water channels as they make their way through the Delta and do some birdwatching on the way to our basic bush camp for the evening. Arrive around lunchtime, set up camp, and get used to your surroundings. Then head out for some adventure on a wildlife walk. The cool thing about being on foot is that you will get to learn about tracking the animals and gain insight into their movement patterns and behaviour more than if you were just in a vehicle. As night falls on the group gather around the campfire, sing with the locals, and simply unwind with a sundowner as you count the stars (cheers!) Please note that there is no shower and only a dig-out bush toilet, as our camp is very basic and in the wild- but it is all worth it due to the incredible landscape and wildlife.
